Watch for

Stepping up: Jeff Niemann has been one of the Rays' most consistent starters. He has a 2.53 ERA in the 211/3 innings since giving up five runs in the first inning of his season debut. He has never faced Boston.

In his wake: Tim Wakefield has given up three runs or fewer in all four of his starts. Though the veteran knuckle?baller has been tough against the Rays (19-5 with a 3.32 ERA), they roughed him up in the past two matchups (12 runs over five innings).

Matchups: Carl Crawford is 25-for-82 (.305) against Wakefield, Akinori Iwamura, above, 10-for-24 (.417) and Gabe Kapler 7-for-17 (.412). But Carlos Pe?a is 4-for-30 (.133)
