Giants notebook: Lincecum may miss Seattle
SAN FRANCISCO The Giants do not plan to use Monday's off-day to alter their rotation, which more or less ensures that Tim Lincecum will not pitch in next weekend's rare interleague series at Seattle.

No big deal, the reigning Cy Young Award winner said.

"I guess I'll have to enjoy Seattle in a different way," said Lincecum, who was born and bred in the region and won the Golden Spikes award at the University of Washington. "I'm just looking forward to being home when the weather is nice."

Lincecum watched the Mariners as a kid but didn't attend many games. He was too busy competing in summer leagues. He has a good idea what to expect when Randy Johnson takes the mound May 22, though especially if the Big Unit can claim his 299th career victory on Saturday when he opposes the Mets' Johan Santana.

"Oh my," Lincecum said. "It'll be intense for the fans, for him and for us, too. If you went to a Mariners game, and he was pitching, you knew he'd bring fuel."

Schierholtz sits

Right fielder Nate Schierholtz wasn't available to start because of a bruised rib. Schierholtz and Aaron Rowand clipped each other in the outfield while pursuing a fly ball in the ninth inning Wednesday.

Bochy said he might have played Schierholtz instead of Rowand, who is fighting a monthlong slump and was 0-for-13 against Mets right-hander John Maine.

Short hops

First baseman Jesus Guzman was batting .361 and had a 12-game hitting streak for Triple-A Fresno after Wednesday night's game. . ... Disabled right-hander Sergio Romo (sprained right elbow) began a rehab assignment for Single-A San Jose at Visalia, tossing a scoreless inning. He walked one and struck out one. Romo is expected to make roughly five appearances for San Jose including back-to-back games before the Giants would activate him . ... Disabled outfielder Andres Torres (strained left hamstring) will report to San Jose for a rehab assignment today against Modesto. Torres is expected to get 30-40 at-bats before he is activated, Bochy said.
