Ken Griffey Jr. turns game around as Seattle Mariners end losing skid at six
May 10, 2009 (The Seattle Times delivered by Newstex ) --

Geoff Baker Live! is coming up at 3:30 p.m. Don't miss it.

That's Ken Griffey Jr. getting high fives after his two-run homer tied the game and ignited a four-run eighth inning by the Mariners . Seattle went on to a 5-3 win as the bats came to life over the final two frames to snap a six-game losing streak and avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Twins.

Adrian Beltre continued to swing a hot bat. He and Russell Branyan had those consecutive singles after the Griffey homer that put runners at the corners with none out. A wild-pitch by Jesse Crain brought Beltre home and a Wladimir Balentien double scored Branyan to cap the rally.

Jose Lopez hit a huge home run in the eighth to give Brandon Morrow some cushion in his first save chance in a while. Morrow allowed a run on a Joe Mauer single, but that was it.

But this game came down to Griffey. He doesn't go deep, this streak is now at seven. He hit a homer and a double today. That's the kind of production expected out of a DH. Not every day. But more often than the Mariners have had since Edgar Martinez left. This is the Griffey this team needs. Not the bobblehead seller. The ballplayer. Today, he was the perfect DH.
