1983 : The Seahawks named Chuck Knox, former head coach of the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills, as their new head coach. Knox replaced Mike McCormack, who had served as the team's interim coach after Jack Patera was fired.

1988 : Dale Ellis of the Sonics converted an NBA-record two four-point plays in a game against the Sacramento Kings. The Sonics won 116-110 as Ellis finished with 42 points.

1989 : John Owen, the P-I's lead sports columnist and associate sports editor, was named Washington's sports writer of the year for 1988 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. It was Owen's seventh such award.

1996 : A seven-member advisory committee recommended that Seattle's NBBJ architecture firm get the nod to design the Mariners' new Baseball park, slated to cost $320 million.

1998 : Green Bay Packers president Bob Harlan said he did not intend to lose either general manager Ron Wolf or coach Mike Holmgren and would deny the Seahawks permission to talk to Holmgren. "We're going to fight to keep Mike," said Harlan, who added that the only way he would allow his coach to leave was if a new job provided Holmgren the opportunity to fulfill his desire to eventually become a general manager.

2005: The Mariners signed shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt, who fled Cuba on a raft in 2003, completing a four-year contract worth $3.65 million.
