M'S GET ONE, BUT NOT ENOUGH --- Bases loaded and no outs surely should have resulted in more than one run. But that's all the M's got off Dana Eveland as he struck out Adrian Beltre then got fly outs from Branyan and Lopez to end the inning. Branyan's scored Ichiro and looked to the fans for a brief second like it might be a slam as the crowd roared to life before seeing the ball die quickly in the outfield. 1-0 Seattle. NOT A BAD START FOR SILVA --- Not flawless. But the pitcher M's fans love to hate made it through the first inning unscathed, allowing one hit but otherwise getting three outs, throwing 17 pitches, 11 for strikes. Seattle coming to bat.
PRE-GAME --- Nice night at the ball park with a little bit of breeze but still pretty warm as first pitch nears.
This is usual UW beat writer Bob Condotta filling in for Baker tonight, so the usual caveat if I call a run a touchdown or something.

The Mariners memorably swept the A's in Oakland two weekends ago and has won six straight against the A's dating to last season (including the games at the end of the season that cost Seattle the chance to get Stephen Strasburg).
Dating to 2007 Seattle has won 26 of the last 41 against the A's, a team that for so lon had the Mariners' number. Not that it did them much good the last two years.
Oakland is playing today without CB Eric Chavez who was placed on the DL with a strained right forearm.
