Texas (67-71) is coming off a 4-3 road trip, salvaging the finale of a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels with a 4-3 win Sunday. Now the Rangers return home, where they have lost three straight and nine of 11.

Usually, teams can count on a boost when facing the Mariners (53-83), who have the American League's worst record. But Texas will be facing a Seattle team that is on its best run of the season.

The Mariners swept a three-game series at Cleveland over the weekend, and have won seven of their last nine. Seattle's 12 wins in August were its most in a month since going 12-15 in April.

Adrian Beltre homered twice to lead the Mariners to a 6-4 win on Sunday, giving the third baseman three multihomer games this season. Beltre is batting .359 (14-for-39) with three home runs, five doubles and six RBIs in his last 10 games.

"He's a great player, a tough guy and he's a leader," Mariners manager Jim Riggleman said of Beltre.

Beltre, though, has struggles against Texas this season, hitting .196 (11-for-56) in 14 games. Beltre and Seattle's lineup will face Matt Harrison (6-3, 5.67 ERA), who struggled in his first career start against the Mariners.

Harrison labored through 4 2-3 innings against Seattle on July 31, giving up six runs - four earned - and five hits while walking five in an 8-5 Texas loss.

Harrison, however, has won four of his last five decisions. The rookie left-hander earned a win in his last start, allowing two runs - one earned - and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings as Texas beat Kansas City 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Seattle will counter with Carlos Silva (4-14, 6.36), who will be making his first start since being placed on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 16 due to biceps tendinitis.

Silva is 0-3 with an 11.39 ERA in his last five starts and hasn't won since June 28, when he beat San Diego. The right-hander gave up a season-high nine runs and nine hits in 3 1-3 innings as Seattle lost 9-3 to Minnesota on Aug. 15.

Silva is 1-0 with a 5.17 ERA in three starts versus the Rangers this season, and 4-4 with a 4.76 ERA in 12 career starts against them. He'll be facing a Texas lineup led by Josh Hamilton, who hit his 30th homer and drove in his major league-leading 117th run on Sunday.

Hamilton bounced back after taking himself out of Saturday night's game because of pain related to the root canal procedure he had on Wednesday.

"He's fatigued, sure," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "But that's when your mental toughness kicks in. This will be good for him as he moves forward."

Hamilton is batting .336 at home, but has gone 0-for-9 in his last two games there.

Texas is 8-6 against Seattle this season.
