That came in the wake of Tuesday's loss, when Seattle had a two-run lead and in the bottom of the ninth inning, only to give up three runs in another 6-5 loss.
In all, the Mariners have given Minnesota 13 runs in the first three games of the season, and 11 of those have come with two out.
The troubling part of the trend is that the four pitchers -- Erik Bedard, Brandon Morrow, Miguel Batista and Carlos Silva -- who were involved in allowing the two-out runs are four pitchers the Mariners are counting on to contribute big innings this year.
Silva gave up all six two-out runs Wednesday on two-run home runs by Justin Morneau in the first and Denard Span in the second, then consecutive two-out doubles in the fifth by Morneau and Jason Kubel.
The home runs are a particular concern because Silva is a sinkerball pitcher, but his pitchers were up consistently all night.
TWINS 6, MARINERS 5: Former Twins RHP Carlos Silva was hurt badly by ex-teammate Justin Morneau on Wednesday.
Morneau hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and with the Mariners leading 5-4 in the fifth, he ripped a game-tying hit to right-center. Morneau ran the hit into a hustle double and wound up scoring the winning run on a subsequent double by Jason Kubel.
One night after the Seattle bullpen self-destructed, the relievers contributed three scoreless innings Wednesday, including two shutout innings by Chris Jakubauskas, making his big-league debut.
However, after scoring five times in the first four innings, the Seattle offense got only two baserunners the rest of the way and only one runner in scoring position.
