Seattle Mariners Inside Pitch 2008-06-28
The Mariners keep getting standout performances from left-hander Jarrod Washburn.

Washburn, who won for the first time in six starts Friday night, had a shutout for six innings and wound up allowing two runs in 7 2/3 innings. He helped Seattle earn a 5-2 victory over San Diego.

It was the fifth time in six games that Washburn has left with the lead, and it's the first time that fate has seen him actually get the win, his third in 10 decisions this year.

It's a record that could be quite a bit better, and it's a good bet scouts are taking notice of Washburn continued successes -- a 2.95 ERA over his last six starts.

As the trading deadline gets closer, it would be no surprise to see the Mariners try to trade Washburn, who has one year left on the four-year deal he signed with Seattle after leaving Anaheim.

MARINERS 5, PADRES 2: 3B Adrian Beltre drove in three of the five Seattle runs, delivering a two-run single in the fourth and an RBI single with the bases loaded in the ninth.

The Mariners seem to be finding a little bit of stability, as they won for the third time in four games and for the fifth time in nine games.
