Seattle Mariners Notes, Quotes 2009-05-06
--RF Ichiro Suzuki had drawn just one walk all season, an intentional one Sunday. That made Tuesday unusual. He drew unintentional walks from Texas RHP Vicente Padilla in consecutive at-bats in the fourth and sixth innings, the only walks Padilla allowed in the first six innings.

--LF Wladimir Balentien saved a run for the Mariners in the eighth inning to keep the score tied with Texas at 1-all by throwing out Rangers 3B Michael Young at the plate. It was his first assist of the season, the third for the Mariners as a whole.

--3B Adrian Beltre was the cleanup hitter for the first 25 games of the season. In Game 26, however, he was moved to fifth, switching places with 1B Russell Branyan. Beltre's average has picked up a little lately, but he came into Monday at .216 while Branyan had nine hits in his previous 23 at-bats (.391). It's not clear whether or not the switch is a one-time event for manager Don Wakamatsu.

BY THE NUMBERS: 5-1 -- Mariners' record, through May 3, when 1B Russell Branyan had two or more hits in a game.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I thought being called up to the big leagues this first time was great. This is better." -- RHP Denny Stark, promoted from Class AAA Tacoma (Wash.) to Seattle Saturday (May 2) after having not pitched in the big leagues since 2005 because of back-to-back Tommy John surgeries.
