--CF Jeremy Reed had two hits, including breaking up RHP John Maine's bid for a no-hitter with a leadoff hit in the fifth inning. Reed has 11 hits in his last 12 games and has pushed his average up to .299.
--LHP Erik Bedard threw a bullpen session before the game to test his sore back. If he doesn't have any repercussions Thursday, it's possible he'll get a start this weekend in San Diego. He hasn't pitched in a game since Friday, when the back spasms forced him out of a start in Atlanta after three innings. --LF Raul Ibanez was hitting .356 (26-for-73) over his last 18 games before going hitless in four at-bats. That lowered his average for the year to .277.
--RHP Miguel Batista's start was his first after five consecutive appearances in the bullpen. Seattle had needed him to serve as closer while disabled RHP J.J. Putz (right elbow) and RHP Brandon Morrow (back spasms) both were unable to pitch. But he's got back pain, and it's possible he's headed to the disabled list.
--LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith retired all six batters he faced in order. He did the same to the Mets on Monday and has retired the last 13 men he has faced.
