--RF Ichiro Suzuki appeared to have made a routine catch of a fly ball hit by Minnesota SS Adam Everett in the fifth inning Friday. But before he could throw the ball back to the infield, the ball fell to the ground. When first base umpire Mark Wegner ruled the ball a drop, Ichiro protested and manager Jim Riggleman argued so vehemently he was ejected for the first time since becoming manager.
--1B Miguel Cairo doubled in the fourth inning Friday and came back with a single in the sixth. Those were the only two hits for the Mariners against LHP Francisco Liriano of the Twins in the first seven innings.
--3B Adrian Beltre and 2B Jose Lopez were given the second half of Friday's game off after the Mariners fell behind by seven runs, 9-2. The idea was to get them off their feet on the artificial surface.
BY THE NUMBERS: 17 -- Consecutive days with games played for the Mariners through Aug. 10.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I would like to get to 100 wins before I get to 100 losses. I know I'm getting closer to the wins being the same as losses, and when I got here, it wasn't anywhere close." -- LHP Jarrod Washburn, who comes into the week 98-97 after three consecutive losing seasons with the Mariners.
