Seattle Mariners Notes, Quotes 2008-08-27
--RHP Roy Corcoran was hit in the face by a shaving cream pie from fellow reliever Mark Lowe. It's the Seattle tradition for a pitcher getting his first big-league win or save to get a face full of shaving cream, and Corcoran had just pitched two shutout innings for his first major league save.

--2B Jose Lopez had a double and a single, scored a run and drove in one as part of his latest resurgence. After a 1-for-28 spell that included a season-worst 0-for-18 streak, Lopez has nine hits in his last 23 at-bats, a .391 average getting his overall mark to .298.

--RHP Miguel Batista probably will not get another start anytime soon even though he limited the Twins to one run in six innings Monday. The club is getting RHP Carlos Silva off the disabled list this weekend, and RHP Brandon Morrow is due to be promoted from Class AAA Tacoma next week.

--LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith, who spent most of the year as a reliever, is making a successful conversion to the rotation. He has gone seven innings in each of his last two starts and has allowed a total of three runs. "Definitely I'm going out there trying to make a case for myself for next year," Rowland-Smith said. "But at the same time, it's all about trying to win. My goal is to go out there and be consistent and go deep into games."

--C Jeff Clement, back in the lineup after missing three games with knee pain, celebrated with a two-run single in his first at-bat of a 3-2 win over Minnesota. Clement has gone 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position in his last eight starts.

--LF Raul Ibanez had two more hits and a walk as his August keeps on getting hotter. Ibanez is hitting .394 for the month with nine doubles, two triples, five homers and 25 RBIs.

BY THE NUMBERS: 15 -- Consecutive games, through Aug. 24, in which Seattle pitchers had allowed at least one home run. That was the most by the Mariners staff since the 2004 season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I have great respect for umpires. The home run, that's the furthest thing away from the umpire. Everything else (they call) is close to them. But when it happens out there and it's bouncing off rails and poles, there's nothing wrong with getting technical help with that." -- Manager Jim Riggleman on why he supports the use of TV replay.
