--LHP Cesar Jimenez and LHP Jake Woods aren't being used as much recently in left vs. left situations, because the results haven't been great. Left-handers are hitting .348 against Jimenez and .290 against Woods. "Out left-handers just haven't been getting left-handers out," manager Jim Riggleman said.
--RHP Felix Hernandez will pitch Friday instead of Saturday and LHP Jarrod Washburn will pitch Saturday instead of Friday in Cleveland. On Sunday, LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith will pitch instead of RHP Carlos Silva as the Mariners tweak their rotation. That keeps Hernandez on a regular five-day rotation and means the Mariners won't have to make a move to get Silva active from the DL on Aug. 31. Instead, he'll be activated Sept. 1 when rosters expand. --RF Ichiro Suzuki and SS Yuniesky Betancourt had two hits and LF Raul Ibanez had one Wednesday against the Twins, replicating the kind of offense the Mariners are used to getting from the top three spots in the batting order. For the year, the Mariners' top three spots are averaging .304.
--LF Raul Ibanez is hitting .394 (38-for-99) for August with nine doubles, two triples, six homers and 26 RBIs.
--C Kenji Johjima has been a first-pitch hitter all year, but there are signs that's about to change. He has 15 walks all season. But five, including one Wednesday, have come in the last nine games.
BY THE NUMBERS: 15 -- Consecutive games, through Aug. 24, in which Seattle pitchers had allowed at least one home run. That was the most by the Mariners staff since the 2004 season.
