Seattle Mariners Notes, Quotes 2008-08-30
--RHP Felix Hernandez is 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA in his last 15 starts, the sixth-lowest ERA in the American League during the streak. His win Friday in Cleveland brought a five-game winless streak on the road to an end. He hadn't won on the road since June 11 at Toronto.

--RHP Roy Corcoran's save against Minnesota on Tuesday made him the eighth different Mariner to pick up a save this year, tying Seattle with St. Louis for the major league lead. The list: RHP Brandon Morrow 10; RHP J.J. Putz 9; LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith 2; and RHP Miguel Batista, RHP Mark Lowe, LHP Arthur Rhodes, LHP Jarrod Washburn and Corcoran, one each.

--C Jeff Clement ranks first among AL rookies in batting average at .343 (24-for-70) with 12 RBIs for the month of August. Clement has a hit in 15 of his 23 games this month. The 2005 first-round draft pick out of USC has proven to hit much better when he catches (.283, 34-for-120 with 19 RBIs) than when he's the DH (.094, 6-for-64, although he was 1-for-3 with a walk as the DH Friday.

--RF Ichiro Suzuki is on a streak in which he has 19 hits in his last dozen games, vaulting him into a tie with Boston 2B Dustin Pedroia for the major league lead in hits with 174. Ichiro has led the AL in hits in four of his seven seasons, (2001, '04, '06, and '07) and could be the first man to lead either league in hits for three consecutive seasons since Minnesota OF Kirby Puckett did it 1987-89. He also stole his 40th base of the season Friday.

--LF Raul Ibanez, who drove in all three runs Friday night, has seven homers and 29 RBIs in 26 games this month. He's 40-for-103 (.388). He had two hits Friday and has two or more hits in 12 of his last 24 games.

BY THE NUMBERS: 15 -- Consecutive games, through Aug. 24, in which Seattle pitchers had allowed at least one home run. That was the most by the Mariners staff since the 2004 season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I have great respect for umpires. The home run, that's the furthest thing away from the umpire. Everything else (they call) is close to them. But when it happens out there and it's bouncing off rails and poles, there's nothing wrong with getting technical help with that." -- Manager Jim Riggleman on why he supports the use of TV replay.
