The Mariners will make their first roster move midweek when RF Ichiro Suzuki comes off the disabled list. When that happens, Ichiro will become the leadoff hitter and LF Endy Chavez, who had a huge first week as the leadoff hitter, will be moved around or will sit on the bench as manager Don Wakamatsu tries to juggle his lineup to find playing time for Chavez, LF/DH Ken Griffey Jr. and DH Mike Sweeney.
PLAYER NEWS: --RHP Shawn Kelley was limping slightly as he came out of Sunday's game against Detroit. He said it was just a cramp, however, and he's expected to be ready to go Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
--LHP Jarrod Washburn came out of his last start while battling the flu. He will start again Tuesday against Tampa Bay after Monday's day off. "I'm feeling a lot better now," Washburn said. "I'll be good to go on Tuesday."
--1B Russell Branyan, who missed starts Saturday and Sunday because of a bad back, is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday against Tampa Bay. He originally hurt his back during a slide at home plate Friday night.
--LHP Cesar Jimenez will throw in a simulated game before Tuesday's series opener against Tampa Bay. He's feeling better after a battle with biceps tendinitis in his left arm and could go out on an injury-rehabilitation assignment this weekend.
MEDICAL WATCH:
1B Russell Branyan (sore back) left the April 17 game after sliding into home plate. He did not play April 18 or 19 but hoped to return April 21.
C Kenji Johjima (strained right hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list April 16.
LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (triceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 11. He is not expected to be sidelined long term.
LHP Cesar Jimenez (biceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 29.
LHP Ryan Feierabend (Tommy John elbow surgery in March 2009) went on the 60-day disabled list March 16.
LHP Tyler Johnson (left shoulder surgery in May 2008) started the season in the minors. He is attempting to rebuild his strength.
RHP Chad Cordero (right shoulder surgery in July 2008) signed a minor league deal with the Mariners during the spring, and he wasn't ready for opening day. He could return in May, however, and then would be a competitor for the closer's job.
