--1B Russell Branyan was still feeling some discomfort in his back, so he was held out of the Seattle lineup Tuesday for the third consecutive day. Branyan, who originally hurt himself on a slide at the plate Friday, is listed as day-to-day.
--RHP Chad Cordero, participating in extended spring training in Arizona, is progressing nicely and is scheduled for a simulated bullpen session against hitters Saturday. Cordero, who signed with Seattle during the spring, hopes to be pitching in the big leagues in May after having undergone surgery to repair a torn labrum during the 2008 season while in the Washington Nationals organization.
--LHP Tyler Johnson is expected to get a couple of one-inning performances Thursday and Monday in extended spring training. It's part of his recovery from surgery in 2008 to remove scar tissue from his left shoulder while he was with the St. Louis Cardinals.
--C Kenji Johjima, on the disabled list with a mild hamstring strain in his right leg, took 35 swings before Tuesday's game. He then got in a session of long throwing, and the Mariners are hoping he'll be able to start running soon. "(Wednesday) we'll see how he does," manager Don Wakamatsu said. "He'll take some batting practice, and probably when we go on the road to Anaheim we'll start his running program." Johjima was hitting .250 in 24 at-bats when he hurt his hamstring April 15.
--LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith met with the Mariners' medical crew. Rowland-Smith, on the disabled list with left triceps tendinitis, is less optimistic than he had been about being back in the rotation Sunday, the day he's scheduled to come off the disabled list. Rowland-Smith is due to get a full briefing from the doctors Wednesday, but he doesn't have full range of motion with his left elbow.
