--1B Mike Sweeney had a minor back issue and got the day off Thursday.

--INF Ronny Cedeno came up with a minor hamstring injury running the bases Wednesday night. He was a late scratch from the lineup Thursday but could be available to play Friday in Anaheim.

--DH Ken Griffey Jr. got the day off Thursday, the result of a day game after a night game. He's expected to be back in the lineup Friday night for the series opener in Anaheim.

--RHP Felix Hernandez threw seven shutout innings Thursday, the first time in four starts this season he hasn't allowed a run. Overall, the Mariners have had a starter go seven or more innings without allowing a run three times in the first 16 games this year.

--RHP David Aardsma threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning Thursday, setting up a save for RHP Brandon Morrow in a 1-0 win over Tampa Bay. It was the seventh appearance of the season for Aardsma, who has yet to give up a run. In 7 2/3 innings, he's allowed five walks (one intentional) but only one hit.

INF Ronny Cedeno (strained right hamstring) was scratched from the lineup April 23. He is day-to-day.

1B Mike Sweeney (back spasm) left the April 22 game, and he didn't play April 23. He is day-to-day.

1B Russell Branyan (sore back) left the April 17 game after sliding into home plate. He did not play April 18-23, and he is day-to-day.

C Kenji Johjima (strained right hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list April 16. He might start running in late April.

LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (left triceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 11. He is unlikely to return when he is first eligible.

LHP Cesar Jimenez (biceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 29.

LHP Ryan Feierabend (Tommy John elbow surgery in March 2009) went on the 60-day disabled list March 16.

LHP Tyler Johnson (left shoulder surgery in May 2008) started the season in the minors. He will pitch in extended spring training in late April.

RHP Chad Cordero (right shoulder surgery in July 2008) signed a minor league deal with the Mariners during the spring, and he wasn't ready for opening day. He will pitch in extended spring training in late April.
