Seattle Mariners Roster Report 2009-05-02

Seattle Mariners Roster Report 2009-05-02
INF Chris Burke, acquired by the Mariners during spring training from San Diego, was traded back to the Padres last week when San Diego needed infield help because of injuries. Burke had been playing for Class AAA Tacoma.

PLAYER NEWS:

--C Kenji Johjima was activated from the disabled list before Friday's game against Oakland, was in the lineup and got a hit in his third at-bat. Johjima, who has recovered from a Grade 1 (mildest) hamstring strain, has seen the Mariners go 6-2 when he's in the starting lineup. To get him on the roster, the Mariners designated C Jamie Burke for assignment.

--RHP Roy Corcoran went on the disabled list late Thursday with a strained necked. Corcoran, who is eligible to be reactivated on May 14, struggled in the first month of the season, going 1-0 with a 7.27 ERA.

--RHP Sean White had not allowed a run all before Oakland LF Matt Holliday homered off him to tie the game in the seventh inning Friday. To that point, he'd pitched in four games (6 1/3 innings) and had allowed just one hit.

--LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith, on the disabled list with left triceps tendinitis, took Thursday off from throwing. He's expected to throw before all three games this weekend, then the Mariners will make a decision about having him throw some bullpen sessions before getting him into games.

--RHP Roy Corcoran has a strained neck, so the Mariners placed him on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Wednesday. In eight appearances covering 8 2/3 innings, Corcoran has a 7.27 ERA, due in part to nine walks.
