Seattle Mariners Roster Report 2009-05-05
RHP Brandon Morrow (biceps tendinitis) was placed on the DL retroactive to April 24 and should be reactivated Saturday. Taking his place on the roster was RHP Denny Stark, called up from Tacoma. RHP Roy Corcoran (neck strain) was placed on the disabled list April 30. Taking his place on the roster was LHP Jason Vargas, called up from Tacoma.

PLAYER NEWS:

--SS Yuniesky Betancourt's two-out walk in the ninth inning Monday was his first base on balls of the year. It came in his 97th plate appearance of the season. It was the longest walk-less streak of the season in the big leagues.

--LF Ken Griffey Jr. was in the starting lineup, but he reported to the park with a nasty case of diverticulitis (colon inflammation) and had to be scratched. Griffey said he's had it before and compared the pain "to being kicked in the ribs." There is a chance he will play Tuesday, but it's more likely he'll return to action on the road trip that starts Wednesday in Kansas City.

--RHP Felix Hernandez's streak of consecutive shutout innings ended at 22 when Texas DH Hank Blalock reached him for an RBI double in the fourth inning Monday. At 22 innings, Hernandez tied former Mariners RHP J.J. Putz for the 10th-longest consecutive scoreless innings streak in club history. The record is 34 innings, set by LHP Mark Langston in 1988.

--RHP Brandon Morrow (right biceps tendinitis) threw a bullpen session Monday and will get another one Wednesday in Kansas City. That should put him in good position to come off the disabled list Saturday in Texas.

--LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (left triceps tendinitis) will throw a bullpen session before Tuesday's game. The plan is for him to pitch in a simulated game before the week is out.
