--LF Ken Griffey Jr. was forced to miss a second consecutive start because of diverticulitis (colon inflammation). The Mariners could see him back in the lineup Wednesday or Thursday in Kansas City.
--LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith, on the disabled list with left triceps tendinitis, threw a bullpen session Tuesday and will toss another this weekend in Minnesota before getting a simulated game early next week in Texas. At that point, the Mariners will decide whether to have him get in a second simulated game on the next homestand or send him out on an injury-rehabilitation assignment.
--LHP Erik Bedard gave up his first run of the game Tuesday in the seventh inning on a solo homer to Texas RF Nelson Cruz. Tuesday marked the third time in six starts that Bedard has opened the game with at least five scoreless innings.
--CF Franklin Gutierrez's eight-game hitting streak ended with an 0-for-3 day Tuesday. During the streak, the second longest of his career, Gutierrez was 14-for-29 (.483) and had five consecutive multiple-hit games, tied for best in the big leagues this season.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Shawn Kelley (strained left oblique muscle) was hurt May 5, and he will be placed on the disabled list May 6. Manager Don Wakamatsu said Kelley would need more than the minimum stay on the DL to recover.
LF Ken Griffey Jr. (colon inflammation) was out of the lineup May 4-5. He is day-to-day.
RHP Brandon Morrow (right biceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 24.
RHP Roy Corcoran (strained neck) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 29.
LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (left triceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 11. He threw a bullpen session May 5, and he will throw another during the weekend of May 8-10.
LHP Cesar Jimenez (left biceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 29. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Tacoma on April 24, and he could be activated in early May.
LHP Ryan Feierabend (Tommy John elbow surgery in March 2009) went on the 60-day disabled list March 16.
LHP Tyler Johnson (left shoulder surgery in May 2008) started the season in the minors. He will pitch in extended spring training in late April.
RHP Chad Cordero (right shoulder surgery in July 2008) signed a minor league deal with the Mariners during the spring, and he wasn't ready for opening day. He will pitch in extended spring training in late April.
