Sources: Braves join Mariners in Griffey pursuit
The return of Ken Griffey Jr. to the Mariners is not assured.

The Braves are emerging as a potential alternative for Griffey, according to major-league sources.

Griffey, 39, has spoken with Braves general manager Frank Wren, but the talks are "fluid, still developing," one source says.

Another source says Griffey is considering both the Mariners and Braves, and could go either way."

Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, did not return a phone call seeking comment.

The Braves are trying to sign a left-handed hitting outfielder, preferably one who can platoon with Matt Diaz in left and also play center on occasion.

The team also wants to re-sign free-agent left-hander Tom Glavine, but has only between $6 million and $8 million left to spend, sources say.
